Medications for Opioid and Alcohol Use Disorders

(MOUD/MAUD) at Greylock Recovery:

A Path to Connection and Healing

When it comes to treating substance use disorders—particularly opioid and alcohol addiction—Greylock Recovery offers a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that includes the use of medications alongside counseling and therapy. This model is sometimes referred to as Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). However, we use the more accurate terms:

  • MOUDMedications for Opioid Use Disorder

  • MAUDMedications for Alcohol Use Disorder

Why MOUD and MAUD, Not MAT?

At Greylock Recovery, we intentionally use the terms MOUD and MAUD because they better reflect our belief that medications are treatment, not just assistance or a temporary aid. “Medication-Assisted Treatment” (MAT) can unintentionally suggest that medication is optional or secondary to therapy. In reality, these medications are often lifesaving clinical interventions that provide a critical foundation for long-term recovery. This shift in language is supported by leading authorities such as SAMHSA, ASAM, and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA).

How MOUD and MAUD Support Recovery

For many, the physical and emotional challenges of withdrawal can make recovery feel overwhelming or even unreachable. Our medication protocols help reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms, allowing individuals to focus on healing, reconnecting with themselves and others, and fully engaging in therapy and recovery.

At Greylock Recovery, this harm-reduction approach integrates medication into a broader, holistic treatment model that includes:

Personalized therapy, including DBT, CBT, and trauma-informed care
Peer connection through Greylock’s curated community and alumni support
Case management to address social, legal, and medical needs
Greylock’s Family Forward Program to strengthen recovery within family systems

Medications Used at Greylock Recovery

We recognize that every person’s recovery path is unique. We work collaboratively to identify the right medication and treatment plan, tailored to each individual’s goals and needs.

For Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD):

  • Methadone – Reduces cravings and withdrawal, supporting long-term stability

  • Buprenorphine (Suboxone®, Sublocade®) – Alleviates withdrawal and cravings, with a lower risk of misuse

  • Naltrexone (Vivitrol®) – Blocks opioid receptors to prevent relapse without creating dependence

For Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD):

  • Disulfiram (Antabuse®) – Causes adverse effects when alcohol is consumed, reinforcing abstinence

  • Acamprosate (Campral®) – Helps stabilize mood and reduce cravings post-withdrawal

  • Naltrexone (Vivitrol®) – Diminishes the rewarding effects of alcohol, lowering the urge to drink

A Whole-Person Approach to Treatment

Whether you’re receiving MOUD or MAUD, our goal is never just to stop substance use—it’s to help individuals build meaningful lives worth staying in recovery for. We combine medication with therapy, peer support, and skill-building so that individuals feel empowered—not just stabilized.

At Greylock Recovery, this means:

Individualized treatment plans aligning medication with personal goals
Counseling and therapy to address trauma, co-occurring disorders, and mental health
Strong support networks via our Stay Connected alumni program and digital recovery community
Family inclusion through the Family Forward Program, equipping loved ones with tools to offer real support

The Greylock Recovery Difference

MOUD and MAUD are not just about avoiding relapse—they’re about bridging the gap between detox and long-term healing. At Greylock Recovery, we walk alongside each individual to provide the compassion, community, and clinical excellence they need to rebuild a life of purpose and hope.

Why Use MOUD and MAUD?

Clinical research consistently shows that medications used to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders:

Reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms
Lower the risk of overdose and relapse
Increase treatment retention and long-term recovery outcomes

When combined with therapy and support, MOUD and MAUD offer a clear, stable path forward—and Greylock Recovery is here to help guide that journey.
